2017 Records: Most Extras in a Test Innings

Being bowler in today’s generation is something an aspiring cricketer never wishes for as the batsmen rule the game of cricket. The ICC tilting the game even more in favour of the batsmen with the some of the rules have subtracted some shine out of bowlers armoury the prime being – extras. The year 2017 had some astonishing Test matches and series being played from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India to the Ashes, 2017 had some of the best Test teams playing against each other.
Bowlers leaked a lot of the runs in all the formats of the game. Let’s have a look at which team gave away the number of extras in a Test innings.
Sri Lanka comes first with 26 extras against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe toured Sri Lanka to play a one-off Test match in Colombo. Zimbabwe showed great spirit in the match and scored over 350 in both the innings of the match and set Sri Lanka a target of 387 in the fourth innings which the hosts chased with four wickets in hand.
Windies come in next with 27 extras in the first Test of the three-match series in Kingston. This was the last international series for two Pakistani greats, Misbah Ul Haq and Younis Khan. The tourists won the three-match Test series 2-1, winning the first and third Test match.
Bangladesh gave 30 extras in a high scoring Test match in Wellington. Bangladesh posted a huge score of 595 in the first innings, but the Kiwis fought back and got close with 539. Bangladesh helped the hosts in the first innings giving away 30 extras.
England hosted Windies in the summer, and the two teams played the first ever day/night Test in the country. Leeds was the venue for the match and Windies batsman Shai Hope was adjudged the man of the match for his twin hundreds. The Windies, however, gave away an astonishing 39 extras in the second innings. The Windies also gave away 44 extras against Pakistan in the second Test match after giving 27 in the first match.
