If reports are to be believed in, South Africa’s talismanic middle-order batsman, AB de Villiers might play the last Test match of his career at Jo’Burg, against Australia.

Earlier this week, fellow teammate Morne Morkel announced his retirement from International cricket citing personal reasons. Morkel decided that the final match of the Australian series will be his last for South Africa.

Interestingly, he is only three shy of clinching 300 Test wickets for his country. The news of AB de Villers announcing his retirement came from fellow countrymen Mike Haysman during his broadcast for the SuperSports Network.

During the second day of the Durban Test match, Australians were all over the hosts with the likes of Starc and Lyon wrecking havoc in the South African camp.

It was Abraham Benjamin de Villiers yet again who stood up, with his team at peril, and struck a priceless 71 with wickets falling all around him.

Meanwhile, during the majestic knock, Mike Haysman hinted at the possible retirement of AB post the Australian series.

This could be the last series for AB de Villiers,” revealed the renowned broadcaster and analyst while commentating.

AB- a living legend of the game

A living legend of the game, De Villiers has as many as 8409 runs to his name in red-ball cricket at an average of 50. Mr. 360 struck 21 centuries and 43 half centuries in his 111 Test match long career until now.

However, in the recent times, the modern master of the game, missed out on a large chunk of Test Cricket in his effort to remain selectively available for South Africa.

AB has been a backbone of South African batting for a decade and a half.

It was the historic Test match against Zimbabwe and the consequent Test series against India which saw the comeback of AB into Test cricket. The news of his retirement might cause a lot of heartbreaks amongst AB fans.
