Adelaide Strikers banked on a magnificent spell by Peter Siddle after an outstanding century from Jake Weatherald to win their maiden KFC Big Bash League title. Strikers restricted Hurricanes for 177 runs after posting 202 on the board.

Batting first, a magnificent century from Weatherald powered Adelaide Strikers to post 202. Weatherald’s hundred came from just 58 balls, and he eventually departed for 115 with eight sixes and nine fours to his name.

Strikers captain Travis Head, who was one of the three cricketers released by Cricket Australia added 44 from 29 while a quick-fire cameo from Colin Ingram helped the host go past the 200-run mark.

Weatherald displayed some clinical hitting, as the fielders went in search of the leather. He continued his good run in the final hitting some mammoth sixes.

It was not a good day for the bowlers, as everybody went for plenty. However, Jofra Archer and Daniel Christian bagged one each.

Hurricanes got off to a brilliant start, as they registered 60 for one at the end of the powerplays. They lost in-form Tim Paine in the first over, as he edged one to Alex Carey off Head. Since then, Hurricanes went on to build a strong partnership, as George Bailey and D’Arcy Short added 81 runs before Bailey departed.

Bailey was the aggressor, scoring 46 runs off 33 balls. Experienced Peter Siddle provided the breakthrough at the right moment.

Strikers bowled some tight overs in the middle to pull things in their favour. Although Short reached his fifty, he failed to match with the increasing required rate. Requiring 85 from the last six, Ben McDermott was caught right in front of the stumps by Siddle.

Short tried his best to take his team closer hammering 18 from a Colin Ingram over but failed. Since Siddle struck for the third time to remove Short, it was all over the Hurricanes. Siddle used his experience to perfection, as he returned with three for 17.

Siddle made up for young Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who missed the final due to International commitments. Hurricanes fell 25 runs short, as they could manage only 177 after a brilliant effort by the Strikers bowlers.

Brief Score: Adelaide Strikers 202/2 ( Weatherald 115, Head 44*) Christian 1/38 beat Hobart Hurricanes 177/5 ( Short 68, Bailey 46) Siddle 3/17 by 25 runs.
