If India had someone like Lalit Modi, who floated the idea of burgeoning Indian Premier League (IPL), Canada has now Roy Singh, a businessman who plans to start an IPL like Twenty20 league in the country.

The Toronto-based businessman is looking forward to start the lucrative league after being impressed by the success of the IPL

“I have watched the huge success of the Indian Premier League and we can do the same in Canada and the US,” he said.

In fact, Roy has charted out a short plan as he says that there will be 10 teams each in two divisions,

“We will have 10 teams in two divisions.”

Just like IPL, the tournament will attract money from broadcasting and various other sources.

Singh hopes to sell broadcasting rights in various countries which will be an income for him from organising the T20 league.

To add the glamour to the tournament, he also plans to use well-known faces in cricket fraternity,

“I know Viv (Richards), Richie (Richardson), Clive (Lloyd), Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Bravo, etc,” he adds.

Surely, the plan looks to be a sumptuous one from outside but it still has a long way to go.

It will be interesting to see players from how many countries will participate in the T20 league.

Also, the idea to materialise the idea takes certain years, so, the T20 league may not be around the corner anytime time.

One of the major reasons for the success of IPL is the glamour and star power attached to it.

The presence of cricketers from all-round the world and Bollywood actors present in the stands are enough to pull TV viewership and fans to the stadium.

Also, cricket in India is the most famous sport, which automatically attracts Indian public.

The first edition of IPL was played in 2008 and the league has successfully completed 10 years.

In between, it has had some difficult times too.

The eleventh edition of the league is all set to start on April 7.

Defending champions, Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The final of the tournament will also be played at Wankhede Stadium, on May 27.
