Dehradun has been named as the second home venue for the Afghanistan Cricket team in India by BCCI.

The picturesque Dehradun is likely to become the second ‘home’ ground of the Afghanistan cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has never shied away from backing the war-ravaged nationand the latest gesture just extends the Indian board’s several attempts to help Afghanistan excel in the game.

“Dehradun is likely to be Afghanistan’s second home ground,” a BCCI official told PTI.

Two years ago, Afghanistan got its first home ground in India when the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the BCCI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority in 2015 to use the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

In March 2017, Ireland had toured India to play five One Day Internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 International (T20Is) and an ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Afghanistan. All the matches were played at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. Before that, Afghanistan Under-19 team had used the ground as their home ground to prepare for the Under-19 World Cup.

Recently, the BCCI also announced that Afghanistan would play their first ever Test against India in Bangalore from June 14.

Afghanistan, one of the most improved teams in recent years, were given Test status along with Ireland last year by the International Cricket Council.
