Australian women’s cricketer Ellyse Perry revealed that it was her brother and father who influenced her to start playing cricket. Her father was a club level cricketer and like most of the Australians, her cricketing journey also stated in the backyards and from there on the love for the game kept on increasing.

During a question-answer session with her fans on her official Twitter handle, Perry revealed different aspects of her life.

“Question 3 for #AskEllyse is from @RRS1912. Who inspired you to play cricket and why jersey number 8?” this was the question which was asked by one of her fans.

Replying to the question Perry said, “I think it started for me just like most kids in Australia, in the backyard. I have got an older brother who played school cricket and I used to follow him around everywhere. My dad played a lot of cricket too so it all started there. Dad was teaching me how to play and then I think I just loved watching Australian teams play both Men and Women when I was growing up.”

“I was fortunate to be born in an area when the Australian team was so successful. Those were the days of Steve Waugh, Rickey Ponting, and Adam Gilchrist, Lisa Sthalekar, Belinda Clarke. They used to play for Australia and were just amazing to watch. I don’t really know why I picked No. 8 as my jersey number. I think I was just given it actually but I don’t like odd numbers so as long as it is an even number I don’t mind what number it is,” Perry stated.
