After losing two consecutive matches to Australia in the ongoing Gillette Trans-Tasman T20I Tri-Nation series, England’s campaign received yet another blow. This time it is their captain, Eoin Morgan, who remains doubtful for the rest of the T20I series.

Morgan missed out on the third match of the series against Australia at MCG after sustaining a groin injury. Captain Morgan injured his right groin while training on the eve of the game. England missed the services of the left-hander in the middle order, as the visitors crawled towards a total of 137.

Australians chased down the total with ease and booked their place in the finals of the tournament. The remainder of the matches would be hosted in New Zealand with the host and England fighting it out in the next half of the series.

Stand-in skipper, Jos Buttler did not make any rigid comment on his status of injury and his availability in the rest of the series. Buttler handled the captaincy as well, as the gloves in the match against Australia at the MCG, as James Vince replaced Eoin Morgan in the middle order.

“He got a little niggle yesterday in training. I don’t think we quite know the extent of it yet so we’ll wait and find out,” said Jos Buttler according to cricket.co.au.

On England’s chances in the series

Buttler affirmed the English team still have a chance to make it to the finals of the tri-series. Buttler feels the change in setting from Australia to New Zealand would benefit his side. The explosive batsman believes the best is yet to come from the English side. Further, Buttler affirmed his boys are determined to come back strong.

“That’s the beauty of a tri-series. We still have a chance to make that final. We obviously go to New Zealand now. It’ll be a nice change of scene, I think, for the England side. We haven’t showcased our ability as we know we can yet and there are guys in that dressing room who’ll be determined to come back strong,” concluded Buttler.
