The Islamabad United has been jolted severely. They will have to fight it out in the remaining of the Habib Bank Limited Pakistan Super League without the services of their regular captain Misbah-ul-Haq. It will be a huge blow to Islamabad especially because he has so much experience under his belt both as a batsman and a skipper.

He was ruled out after sustaining a hairline fracture in his wrist. The incident happened during the final league match against Karachi Kings in Sharjah on Friday. A bouncer hit Misbah from left-arm paceman Tymal Mills and suffered a hairline fracture. Despite not being in critical condition, Misbah will be out of action for at least four weeks.

It was South African middle-order batsman Jean-Paul Duminy who took over the captaincy for the qualifier in the absence of Misbah. The match was played at the Dubai International stadium when the report was filed. Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan replaced the injured Misbah for the rest of the matches.

Islamabad has already lost the services of their appointed vice-captain Rumman Raees. The Pakistan left-arm seamer sustained a serious knee injury while fielding during a match against the Quetta Gladiators on February 28 in Sharjah. He is currently recuperating from the injury in Karachi. Misbah has played only eight matches in the tournament so far and has batted only four times. He has a PSL best score of just 22 runs. Misbah who missed the qualifier was, however, present to watch his team play.

Meanwhile, Islamabad is also without the services of all-rounder Andre Russell. The swashbuckling all-rounder pulled his right hamstring during his team’s crushing victory against Karachi on March 4 at Sharjah. Russell returned to competitive cricket at the PSL only after serving a one year ban in January for doping.
