Former Indian opening batsman, Virender Sehwag is not surprised with his buddy Ashish Nehra getting a recall into the Indian team after a gap of seven months.

The 38-year-old fast bowler last played an international match back in February earlier this year against England. He was in the scheme of things for the Champions Trophy but an injury during IPL ended that dream of the veteran fast-bowler.

Speaking on Ashish Nehra’s age, former explosive batsman compared Nehra with the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar and questioned that if these greats can play the game at the age of 40 or above why can’t Ashish Nehra.

“I don’t think age should be the criteria to play in the world cup. If Nehra is fit, picking up wickets and giving away less runs, then why not? Sanath Jayasuriya played till 42, Sachin Tendulkar played till the age of 40 then why not Ashish Nehra?” Said Sehwag.

In a chat with India Today, Sehwag said he thinks the veteran fast-bowler still has it in him to represent India at the international level.

“I was not at all surprised with Nehra’s selection in the T20I team against Australia. I am very happy that he is a part of the team and I want him to play more matches in future,” He added.

Indian selectors announced the team for the three T20 international matches after the last ODI in Nagpur. The team saw three big changes, as Ashish Nehra, Dinesh Karthik, and Shikhar Dhawan returned to the side.

The T20I series will begin on Saturday(7th October) in Ranchi’s JSCA stadium, the next match will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium while the series will end in Hyderabad.
