India won the final T20 at the Wankhede Stadium by five wickets and whitewashed the tourist 3-0 in the final series of the home season. Rohit Sharma finally won the toss and chose to bowl first, and the Indian team restricted Sri Lanka for a low score of 135/7 on a pitch which looked like a belter. The Sri Lankan top order disappointed once again in the series as they were 18/3 at one stage.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Asela Gunaratne then tried to steady the innings as the two were involved in a 38 runs stand before Sadeera was dismissed for 21. Gunaratne was the top scorer for the Lankan side as he scored 36 runs.

Shanaka was the second top scorer for the tourists in the innings with 29 and was unbeaten. Jaydev Unadkat and Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets each. Mohammed Siraj who was playing his second T20I was the most expensive bowler and gave away 45 runs in four overs and picked up a wicket.

India’s top order had a rare failure in the series as both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed to give India a good start. Rahul was dismissed for four while Rohit played an uncharacteristic 20 ball 27. Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey batted well in the middle order and scored 30 and 32 respectively.

Chameera and Shanaka picked up two wickets each. Here is what Sri Lanka’s captain Thisara Perera said at the post-match presentation.

“As a captain I’m really proud of the bowling unit for defending 130 like this. I’m proud of my team mates. We’ve always had a good fielding coach and that’s we’ve really improved out fielding as well. We have learnt lots on this tour. We all know India is a big team at the moment. We’ve learnt a lot of things and we have to continue our performance. Our batting has to click and I think we will go a long way.”
