India Sri Lanka Indore Rohit Kuldeep Yuzvendra Chahal
Rohit Sharma led India beat Sri Lanka by 88 runs to win the match and T20I series.

Rohit Sharma & Co. sealed the ongoing three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka with a comprehensive win in the second game in Indore on Friday (December 22). Skipper Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock off 118 runs set the tone for the hosts as they thrashed the beleaguered hosts by 88 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Sent in to bat first, India made a mockery of Sri Lanka’s decision by posting a mammoth 260 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 165 runs off just 75 balls before the former was dismissed for a stroke-filled 118 which came off just 43 balls and was studded with 12 fours and 10 sixes. Rahul then took charge from thereon and scored 89 off just 49 balls to help India post their biggest ever T20I total, overhauling the 244 for 4 they scored last year against West Indies.

In reply,  Sri Lanka promised to make it a close affair but their challenge ultimately fizzled out and they were all out for 172 in 17.2 overs. After the opening pair of Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga added 36 runs for the first wicket, the latter and Kusal Perera revived their team’s hopes with a promising 109-run stand. However, once Yuzvendra Chahal broke the partnership by dismissing Tharanga, the floodgates opened and from 145 for 1, the Islanders were all out for 172.
