The Indian team has flourished like never before under the leadership of Virat Kohli. And one man who has watched this side from close quarters is none other than former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. India sealed the ODI series by a convincing margin of 5-1 and wrapped up the T20I series 2-1.
It was the visitor’s maiden triumph in limited overs cricket on South African soil, and credit has been given to the inspirational skipper of the side. Kohli led from the front and scored a bagful of runs throughout the tour. Ganguly heaped praise on the skipper and said that he is a fantastic leader.

Ganguly also credited Kohli for handling former captain MS Dhoni in the best possible manner. He said that not always a current captain looks after the former skippers in the manner in which Kohli do. Kohli and Dhoni’s relationship has been an integral part of India’s recent success. He said that there had been instances where a former skipper has been pushed aside, but that is where the difference lies.
Kohli has taken batting to new heights: Ganguly
The former southpaw also added that Kohli takes everyone along and has shown immense faith in the likes of Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya. The Prince of Kolkata also feels that India stands a solid chance of beating England away. In his popular column for Times of India, Ganguly wrote:
“He [Kohli] has taken batting to new heights and it makes us feel good for the upcoming visits to England and Australia because this team has the potential to win Test series in those two countries which is the ultimate achievement for any touring side. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have only got better, and the latter has emerged as the future of fast bowling for India.”
