BCCI is looking forward to putting a cap on the number of overs that a contracted bowler can bowl during a net session in IPL, a report in The Indian Express suggests.

The step is directly related to the workload on the bowlers. If a bowler bowls more overs in nets, this would be considered as the violation of the rule.

In the past couple of years, managing workload of players, especially bowlers, has become one of the most important topics.

Indian bowlers are given enough rest before a series. This has already seen BCCI creating a different set of bowlers for different formats.

Players like Umesh Yadav has already lost his place in ODI format in the name of rest. Mohammed Shami is a regular player in ODI format. He travelled to South Africa for Tests and ODI series but only played Test matches.

Rest has seen spinners, ie. Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin also lost their place in the side.

They were rested for the series against Sri Lanka and from then, are yet to make their comeback in limited-overs squad.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are the only two bowlers who play all the formats and will continue to do so.

BCCI handed these two Grade A+ contract, which means they have to play more to be in the top grade.

In fact players like Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma – all in Grade A+ – will have to play all the formats.

Kohli is an automatic selection in all the formats while Dhawan and Rohit kept losing their place in the playing XI in Tests regularly.

The upcoming season is a big one for India, which will only end after the World Cup 2019 in the month of May-June.

Hence, fitness will be the biggest concern for players, especially fast bowlers. BCCI might make strict rules for next IPL keeping World Cup in mind.
