The news of Mohammed Shami being cleared to play has not just come as a relief for the player, but also for the Delhi Daredevils.

The franchise had retained him on the auction day for an amount of Rs 3 crore by the use of the Right to Match (RTM) card.

Hemant Dua, the CEO of Delhi Daredevils, exulted happiness on the news of Shami being cleared of any charges and he wrote –

Shami is one of the star pacers in Delhi Daredevils squad on whom the success of the team will heavily rely on.

Though he did not play all the games last season with no Zaheer Khan in DD’s squad now, the responsibility to lead the pace attack will fall on him.

The pace attack of DD has likes of Kagiso Rabada, Vijay Shankar, Daniel Christian, Trent Boult, Sayan Ghosh, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel.

Shami was cleared by BCCI yesterday (March 22) after the investigation by ACU cleared Shami of any fixing charges.

The BCCI had said that Shami will be handed the contract and will be allowed to play IPL if he was not found guilty in any of the fixing charges.

After being cleared, he was handed Grade B contract by BCCI, yesterday (March 222).

The players in Grade B are entitled to a salary of Rs 3 Crore per year.

His inclusion in Grade B though comes as a surprise as he is a regular member of the Test team and is also in the scheme for the ODIs.

As per his performance, Shami could have been included in Grade A of the central contract list.

Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils kick off the IPL campaign against Kings XI Punjab in an away game on April 8.

Earlier, the game was to be played at Feroz Shah Kotla said, but the venue was shifted due to logistical issues.

As per the new schedule, Kings XI Punjab will play their first three games at their first home in Mohali.
