IPL 2018: Four Players Who Might Play Their Last Season This Year

Updated - 13 Mar 2018, 01:48 AM

The cricketing fraternity is eagerly waiting for the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League. The reason behind it is pretty clear. India’s premier T20 tournament is one of its kind in the whole world.

It is not only the richest cricket league in the world but also displays the game of highest quality. Not only that, almost every top player from around the globe features in the cash-rich league. It also unearths relatively unknown talents in each season. Not surprisingly, the players also look forward to playing in the league.

But amidst all the excitement, there are few players who will be having a hard time in the upcoming season. The forthcoming edition can turn out to be their last and they will be desperate to leave a mark.

So here are 4 players who might play their last IPL this year:

4. Harbhajan Singh:

The veteran off-spinner’s international is as good as over now. His last appearance for India came in 2016 when he played against UAE in the Asia Cup.  He has not played any Test or ODI since 2015. Moreover, his appearance in domestic cricket is also limited. All this clearly proves that there is not much cricket left in the 37-year old. Earlier this year, Mumbai Indians ended its decade-long association with him by not retaining him.

He was bought by Chennai Super Kings at his base price and if he fails to perform this season, it can bring down curtains on his IPL career.

3. Chris Gayle:

The most decorated T20 batsman of all time, Gayle is definitely in twilight of his illustrious career. The fact that he had gone unsold on two calls in this year’s auction pretty much proves it. He was bought by Kings XI Punjab towards the very end of the auction and a failure in the upcoming season can end his IPL career.

2. Gautam Gambhir:

Gambhir’s international career is also totally derailed now. He has done reasonably well in IPL. However, with age not on his side, a failure in the forthcoming season can end his career in the lucrative league.

1. Yuvraj Singh:

The World Cup-winning star will be under immense pressure to deliver. He has never managed to perform consistently in the IPL and will be hoping that it changes this season when he dons the Kings XI Punjab jersey once again. The southpaw last played for India during the tour of West Indies last year and has not been considered for selection since then.  In case, he fails to perform this season, he too can wave goodbye to his IPL career.
