Robin Uthappa will continue to don the Kolkata Knight Riders jersey after the two-time Indian Premier League champions bought him in the ongoing auction by using the Right to Match card. The wicketkeeper-batsman was bought by the franchise for Rs 6.4 crore.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals tried their best to secure the services of the two-time IPL winner and the defending champions won the race.  But just when Mumbai thought they had landed Uthappa for Rs 6.4 crore,  Kolkata Knight Riders jumped in the last minuted and used the RTM card to poach him.

In 2014, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders and had a tough start  in first leg of the tournament conducted in UAE. He was then promoted to the opening position with Gautam Gambhir and performed well in the India-leg of the season. Part of the Indian team that won the inaugural World T20, Uthappa had gone on to win the Orange Cap after scoring a staggering 660 runs. Over the years, he has established himself as an integral part of the Knight Riders team.
