Chennai Super Kings survived a Kane Williamson special to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs and move to the top of the points table.  Sent in to bat first, the Super Kings rode on fifties from Suresh Raina (54), Ambati Rayudu (79) and a quickfire knock from MS Dhoni to post 182 for 3.

In reply, Hyderabad were on the backfoot after being reduced to 21 for 3. However, Kane Williamson’s 84-run knock helped them claw their way back.  Yusuf Pathan played a quickfire knock of 45 but could not avoid a narrow 4-run defeat for his team.

With the game now done and dusted, here is a look at some interesting numbers:

1. The game witnessed the first instance of Bhuvneshwar Kumar not bowling his full quota of four overs in a game where Hyderabad bowled out 20 overs. He finished the game with 3 overs to his name.

2. This was Hyderabad’s third loss while chasing at their home ground in Hyderabad. Their previous defeats came against Super Kings in 2013 and Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.

3. Ambati Rayudu averages an impressive 78.33 against Sunrisers in Hyderabad. He scored 235 runs with three fifties in four innings against the Hyderabad-based franchise.

4. Williamson’s 84-run knock is the highest individual score for Sunrisers in the IPL in losing cause. Naman Ojha scored an unbeaten 79 against Kings XI Punjab in 2014.

5. Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina added 112 runs for the third wicket. It was the highest partnership for third and lower wicket for any team against Sunrisers. MS Dhoni and David Hussey added an unbeaten 108-run stand for the 4th wicket in 2014.

6. Yusuf Pathan has now hit 151 sixes in his IPL career. It made him only the eighth player to hit 150 sixes in the IPL.

7.  Sunrisers Hyderabad took the field without Shikhar Dhawan in the playing XI for the first time in 74 IPL games. Dhawan featured in 73 consecutive IPL games for the team after missing the first seven games in the 2013 edition.
