Mumbai Indians retained Krunal Pandya on the auction day for an amount of Rs 8.80 Crore. The all-rounder was not retained by the franchise earlier due to the shortage of RTM cards as they were allowed to retain only three players on the retention day.

During the auction, three franchises viz Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad went for Pandya. In the end, RCB successfully bought Pandya for an amount of Rs 8.80 Crore.

Mumbai Indians, who were sure of using their RTM card, did not bid for him and as soon as Pandya went to RCB, Mumbai Indians raised their RTM card to welcome back their former player.

The decision of Mumbai Indians to retain Pandya was a no-brainer as he has done well in both the seasons he has played for this team. There was no doubt regarding MI retaining him.

Krunal was the second and the last retention of the day for Mumbai Indians. They had earlier retained Kieron Pollard earlier in the day.
