IPL 2018 Kris Srikkanth
Spinners have adapted extremely well to T20s says Kris Srikkanth

Former India cricketer, Kris Srikkanth recently highlighted the impact of the spinners behind the success of their respective franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Meanwhile, spinners had a long-lasting impression over the ten years of the league. Many spinners have benefitted from it and went on to play for India as well.

Moreover, the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, who have stamped themselves, as India’s first-choice spinners in the limited-overs cricket, owe plenty to their stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, as the reason behind their rise as world-class spinners.

While mentioning the impact of Ravichandran Ashwin and Sunil Narine had on their teams, Srikkanth stressed on on the value spinners bring to their sides.

When a third format came (T20) it was the final nail in the coffin for spinners around the world.A good 14 years after the launch, the slow bowlers have found refreshing ways to combat broad bats, benign tracks and smaller boundaries to emerge as the key component not only T20s but white ball cricket in general,” Srikkanth wrote in TOI.

Meanwhile, among the top nine wicket-takers, there are five spinners. Kris also added the spinners have been economical which suggests that the best way to curb run flow is to pick wickets.

Spinners develop with age

The former chief selector also noted that spinners grow with time and add variety to their armoury. Srikkanth also added the franchises rightly spend more money on them at the auctions.

Spinners develop with age, add more tricks along the way and definitely command a bigger shelf life than speedsters. It is only logical that franchises spend a huge amount to build their bowling combination around these spinners,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, a handful of spinners impressed in the ongoing edition. The likes of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mayank Markande have been impressive of all.
