Murali Vijay is one of India’s best openers in the Test format and has given the national team a lot of solidarity at the top of the order especially on away tours.

Vijay scored 102 runs in the six innings of the just concluded Tests series against South Africa.

However, Vijay has expressed excitement over joining his hometown Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2015 and 2016 season respectively.

Vijay was bought by CSK for INR 2 crore after going unsold in the first round. Vijay played a key role for CSK in their triumph in the 2010 and 2011 season.

The opener Vijay had subsequently played for the Chennai-based franchise between 2009 and 2013 to amass 1,600 runs.

CSK has been the most successful franchise in the cash-rich tournament and Murali Vijay wants to excel.

Apart from the two titles, CSK also finished runners-up on four occasions and qualified to the Playoffs in every season that they featured in between 2008 and 2015.

Chennai Super Kings CEO, KS Viswanathan also praised the right-handed opener and said, “Vijay has always done well in crunch situations for us in the past. He is someone who clicks in big games and we are confident that he will reignite that spark.”
