Earlier this week there was a huge announcement that after MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar there will be another biopic hitting box office and it will be on India’s first World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev.

Phantom Film productions took the initiative to revive the glorious 1983 World Cup triumph at the home of cricket, Lord’s cricket ground. When an underdog Indian team overcame the mighty Windies to grab their hands on the World Cup for the very first time.

Indian movie director, Kabir Khan spoke to PTI and revealed that he is interested in this new project and he wants the audience to witness what changed cricket in India.

“As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup. I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on, He said”

The founder of Phantom Films, Vishnu Vardhan Induri revealed that Kapil Dev’s character will be portrayed by Ranveer Singh.

“Our dream of wanting to make a movie on the Incredible journey of the Indian cricket team during the 1983 World Cup only gets bigger with Kabir Khan and Ranveer Singh coming on board.”

Now, the former India captain Kapil Dev himself came out and cleared the air that the biopic is not on him but it will show Men in Blue’s triumph at the biggest ICC events.

Kapil Dev said,

“First of all, it’s not a film on me, so it’s not my biopic,” the legendary cricketer asserts. “It’s a film on the 1983 World Cup win. It is not about me. So I guess all of us will be there.”

“I have no idea about all that. All I know is that they’re making a film on the 1983 World Cup.”
