Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has listed his top all-time five best batsmen. Known for his aggressive approach, Pietersen also enjoyed the commentary stint, of late.

The 37-year-old Natal-born Pietersen recently decided to hang his boots. He is bound to bid adieu to cricket with a culmination of the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Pietersen recently featured in the seventh edition of the lucrative Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL). He represented KFC BBL franchise Melbourne Stars.

Before announcing to retirement from all forms of cricket in 2018, Pietersen scored 226 runs in eight outings for Stars.

However, Pietersen’s highest score of 74 came against Melbourne Renegades in Melbourne on 12 January 2018.

The top-order batsman Pietersen was the vital cog in England set-up. It further saw him boosting the morale of his teammates from time-to-time.

Pietersen featured in 136 One-day internationals, 104 Tests and 37 Twenty20 Internationals for the Three Lions. He represented England between 2004 and 2004 as his career was somewhat controversial.

Owing to the BBL commentary, Pietersen has represented Channel 9 and Channel 10 respectively in Australia.
Pietersen has simultaneously witnessed some exceptional talent played alongside him. The prominent cricketer had played an integral role for England during his 10-year career.

Here’s the list of top five picks from Kevin Pietersen:

While talking to Cricket Australia, Pietersen, who smashed 32 tons for England, asserted he had cherished his professional career.

While giving his verdict, Pietersen maintains veteran South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis is topping the charts.

“Technique-wise, unbelievable. Batted for hours, a magician with a bat in his hands,” Pietersen was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

The 42-year-old prolific Kallis amassed 18,548 runs across formats. The medium pacer in Kallis bagged 577 wickets in the international fold.

While praising the veterans of the game, Pietersen picks former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. Both have worked by BT Sport during the traditional Magellan Ashes 2017-18 season.

Pietersen believes the fierce approach from Ponting has made him something phenomenal in his approach.
Interestingly, Pietersen remarked Sachin Tendulkar had been one such character who has set the benchmark in the world cricket.

The batting legend, however, found the third spot in the Pietersen’s all-time five best batsmen.
Pietersen also reminisced about the magnificent ton from batting maestro Tendulkar in Chennai Test match when the former was leading his side.

Pertinently, Pietersen has always praised Tendulkar for being humble and expressing himself owing to the batting prowess.

“That hundred he scored against us in Chennai when all odds were against India. He scored that 4th innings hundred when I was captain. The way he was able to manipulate the ball, punch the ball, that heavy bat. Just phenomenal,” Pietersen asserted.

Moreover, Pietersen includes swashbuckling Windies opener Chris Gayle in his list at the fourth spot. Pietersen is in awe of the big-hitting, Gayle, who wields the bat like an ax.

“How hard he hits the ball and how far he hits the ball. Just out of this world,” Pietersen stated.

Concluding, the fifth joint-list is being shared by AB de Villiers and Team India skipper Virat Kohli.

Talking about the batting stars, Pietersen has lauded the efforts of de Villiers and Kohli to set a great example for the aspiring cricketers. Both went on to perform at every level in the top-flight cricket.

“They epitomise the modern day 360-degree player…they hit most balls wherever they want to hit the ball. It’s as good as it gets,” Pietersen added.
