Test cricket is more of patience then trying something extra early on when it comes to the holding off a ball red-ball either on a green track or the feather-bedded surface.

Interestingly, the slow-bowlers have dominated this list which eventually saw the bowlers giving their hundred percent – to set victories for their respective teams throughout the season.

Test cricket might have lost its charm in terms of turning the spectators to the stadium, but the traditional format has sprung the surprise or so in the recent past to further allow the bowlers to shine on and the year 2017 was in itself an enterprising one for the bowlers as well.

Here’s the list of bowlers who have had collected the most number of five-fors in 2017:

Yasir Shah – 5 five-wicket haul:

The Swabi-born leg-spinner Yasir Shah has been on the role for Pakistan with the ball since he burst onto the international scene and donned the white jersey.

The wily customer Shah has bagged five five-wicket haul in 2017 in which he conceded 1,242 runs while sending down 394.1 overs.

In six Test matches, Shah achieved this feat while bowling in all 12 innings which includes a famous win in Windies when he dismissed Shannon Gabriel on the penultimate over of the fifth day to script the history for Pakistan.

Expensive at times, but Shah with his guile has taken many batsmen by surprise with his knack of picking wickets at will.

Rangana Herath – Five five-wicket haul

The old-horse from Sri Lanka has grabbed the attention purely on his bowling ability after Muttiah Muralidharan hung his boots to make way on the regular basis for the 39-year-old Rangana Herath, who not only picked wickets but kept on achieving the feat after another with his hard work and spirit to remain dedicated.

Although blighted by injuries during his prominent career which is in its last phase, the off-spinner Herath stood up for his team to skittle out the opposition.

Interestingly, in the two-match series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which included two five-wicket haul in the first Test that was held at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi in September early this year.

In 11 Test matches, Herath claimed five five-wicket haul which took him 19 innings.

The slow-bowling sensation Herath bowled 465.1 overs in which he conceded 1,432 runs.

Nathan Lyon: Five five-wicket haul:

Known as GOAT (Greatest of all-time), the premium Australia off-spinner is participating in the ongoing Ashes series which has already regained by hosts with Perth Win.

However, the 30-year-old spinner is yet to claim his five-for in the traditional series against England.

While playing an integral role in Australians wins in the recent past, Lyon was the top-wicket taker in the subcontinent against Bangladesh where the two-match Test series ended on a draw (one win each).

In 10 Tests, Lyon conceded 1,375 runs which subsequently saw him bowling 506.2 overs which comprised of 19 innings.

The right-arm fast bowler Anderson played so far 10 Test matches in which he conceded 860 runs after sending down 367 overs. Anderson

James Anderson: Four five-wicket haul

England fast bowling spearhead James Anderson, who is England’s all-time leading wicket-taker, might have had struggled to penetrate through the Australia batting line-up at the first look, but his ability to pick the wickets hasn’t been hampered while having a quality experience on his back.

Forget about the lacklustre, Anderson has shouldered the responsibility when it comes to the red-ball to eke out the wickets.

Kagiso Rabada – Three five-wicket haul:

The promising youngster Kagiso Rabada has been the greatest example of a success story in the contemporary cricket and particularly in the Test fold.

So far, the 22-year-old Johannesburg born Rabada has featured in 22 Tests in which he bagged 102 wickets at an average of 22.71.

Brilliant with the red-ball, Rabada made his Test debut at Mohali in 2015 against India and there on he didn’t look back.

Having seven five-wicket hauls under his belt, Rabada managed to collect three out of them in 2017 after featuring in 18 innings of 10 Test matches.

The pace gun bowled 346 overs to give away 1,132 and has been looking for to deliver.
