Updated - 21 Feb 2018, 12:49 AM

Former Proteas pacer and Highveld Lions player Lonwabo Tsotsobe was banned from playing cricket last year due to several breaches of conduct of Cricket South Africa’s Anti-Corruption code for personnel. The procedure which followed was very long. Things went against Tsotsobe when Gulam Bodi admitted t the charges of fixing matches in the 2015 Domestic Ram Slam T20 Challenge.

However, the former fast bowler has only admitted to the charges of fixing one match in the tournament. Since the ban, Tsotsobe has left Johannesburg and returned to Port Elizabeth, his hometown. He has turned to music for comfort and can be often seen in local pubs around Port Elizabeth as a DJ.

People are shocked when they see me DJing at local pubs like KwaNgqoko in New Brighton and they think I am down and out but I am not,” Tsotsobe says. He added that some of DJ work which he does is free and music is his hobby. “I have always loved music. Even when I was still playing cricket professionally I bought myself DJing equipment and I would play at home and entertain my friends. Now I travel all over the country as DJ Tso,” he says.

Following his abolishment from the game, Tsotsobe said that he went into a dark space and went into depression. However, he said that his family and music helped him recover from this situation.  “I was depressed and I asked myself many questions, not because was guilty but because I could no longer do what I love the most. I never even went on trial for me to say my side of the story. Anyway, it’s too late to turn back the wheel,” he says.
