Team India has been quite phenomenal in the ongoing One-day International series against the Proteas so far. Owing to the convincing victory in the fifth ODI in Port Elizabeth, the Men in Blue registered their maiden bilateral series victory in the Rainbow Nation.

After a slight hiccup in the fourth ODI at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, India bounced back strongly to take an unassailable 4-1 lad in the six-match series.

Opener Rohit Sharma who was terribly out of form throughout the tour finally came back to form with a bang as he smashed his 17th ODI century to take India to a score of 274 for seven in 50 overs.

The Proteas bounced back strongly in the death overs and restricted the visitors to a manageable score.

Yet again, it was the wrist spinners who created the magic and shared six wickets between them as they ripped apart the South African batting order.

Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah provided the initial breakthrough and then Hardik Pandya’s twin wickets pegged the host back and they were unable to recover from the hiccup.

Kuldeep Yadav bagged four wickets during his spell while Yuzvendra Chahal returned with two wickets as India bundled out the Proteas for just 201 runs.

India registered a 73-run victory before playing the final ODI fixture in Centurion on February 15.

Leg-spinner Chahal has been one of the top performers for the visitors in the ongoing series.

After the series victory, the leggie Chahal took to his Twitter handle to make sure that India was not looking to be complacent and was looking seal series with a 5-1 victory.

He wrote, “Was extra motivated to do well and wrap up the series today. Thank you, everyone, for your wishes. Onto the next one. Focussed on making it 5-1 #bleedblue #INDvsSA,”
