Mujeeb Zadran, Ross Taylor leap up in ODI Rankings

After the inaugural edition of ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, the next big thing in Afghanistan cricket, Mujeeb Zadran, made giant strides upwards in the latest ICC ODI rankings.

New Zealand’s prolific run scorer, Ross Taylor, following a notable ODI series against England, also equaled his career-best ranking and powered into the top 10.

Ross Taylor is now placed at the seventh position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for batsmen. Taylor climbed six places with a career highest 789 ranking points.

His career-best unbeaten knock of 181, against England at Dunedin, in an enthralling run chase, enabled him to enter the Top 10 again. It was is 2015 that Taylor was amongst the top 10 batsmen in ODIs last.

Afghanistan, against all odds, clinched the ICC Qualifiers trophy by defeating giants West Indies in the finals of the tournament. Mohammad Shahzad and Mujeeb Zadran were instrumental in Afghanistan’s victory in the finals.

Thanks to his recent performances, Mujeeb is now placed at the 21 spot among the bowlers in the rankings. The 16-year-old galloped 42 placers to acquire his new spot in the rankings.

The KXIP latest treasure, who tuns only 17 this week, was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Mujeeb scalped 16 wickets at an average of a shade under 16, to become the latest find for Afghanistan in the international arena.

Safyaan and Murtagh also make giant strides upwards

Also, Zadran clinched four wickets in the finals of the tournament to decimate the Windies in the finals.

Ireland stalwart, Tim Murtagh, who had a fantastic tournament individually with 10 wickets, is placed only one spot above Mujeeb. The 36-year old veteran scalped his best figures against Windies by picking up four wickets.

His colleague, Andy McBrine was another major climber by shooting 22 places upwards to the number 42 position.

Also, Scotland’s Safyaan Sharif made a prominent rise in the rankings by skipping 46 places and attaining the number 35 position. Sharif was also the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 15 wickets to his name.
