Mumbai Indians & Kolkata Knight Riders Reveal The Number Of Players They Want To Retain

With contracts of all the players set to end next year, the forthcoming auction ahead of the eleventh season of the lucrative league is set to be the biggest one since the inaugural one in 2008.  While there is still no confirmation on whether the franchises will be allowed to retain any player, media reports are indicating that the idea of allowing the teams to retain three players was discussed by the IPL governing council in Delhi on Tuesday (October 24).

Several sources have claimed that the committee meet again next week to discuss further on the much-talked about matter before taking a final call on November 14 at a workshop with all eight franchises. As per ESPNcricinfo, a BCCI official, in the know of things, suggested that the three players could be a combination of two Indians and one overseas player, or two overseas players and one Indian.

The news outlet also reported that not all the teams were interested on retaining players but Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who will return to the tournament next year after serving a two-year ban, were keen to retain some players.

However, according to Indian Express, defending IPL champions Mumbai Indians have stated that they would like to retain five players from its current squad for the next season. On the other hand, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have expressed their desire of retaining just one player.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are in no mood to compromise when it comes to getting back their former talismanic skipper MS Dhoni. On the contrary, Rajasthan Royals want each of its players who played for them in the 2015 season to go back to the auction pool.

Well, one cannot blame the franchises for their demands. Given that all the teams were settled, a mega auction will compel them to build the team from the start once again.
