Mumbai T20 League: Amol Muzumdar to Don Mentor's Hat for Mumbai North West

Former legendary player, Amol Muzumdar, has been appointed as the mentor of Mumbai North West Team for Mumbai T20 league, coached by Omkar Salvi.

Muzumdar is a former Mumbai player, who also had played for Assam and Andhra Pradesh.

In total, he had played 171 first-class games in which he scored 11,167 runs at an average of 48.13.

Muzumdar also played for India A.

At one stage, he was the highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy. His record was broken by Wasim Jaffer – the current highest-scorer in the history of the tournament. Jaffer is still an active cricketer though. He (Muzumdar) had also worked as the batting consultant of Netherlands.

Recently, he had worked with Unmukt Chand, the former India U19 World Cup-winning captain.

The 24-year old player regained his form to make it to India A side for the Deodhar Trophy, after two years.

There were also reports he had been roped in by Rajasthan Royals as the batting consultant, but the franchise is yet to make an official announcement.

Sairaj Bahutule
Rajasthan Royals appointed Siraj Bahutule as their spin bowling coach.

It had already confirmed the appointment of Sairaj Bahutule as spin bowling coach and the talks between the franchise and Muzumdar seem to be in operation.

Mumbai North West have Rohit Sharma as its icon player. The franchise purchased him for an amount of Rs 6 Lakh. However, the India vice-captain will give the full tournament a miss.

He will lead India in the Nidahas Trophy and will only return to India when the tournament will be at the last stage.

Mumbai North West also include likes of Akhil Herwadkar, Iqbal Abdullah, Pardeep Sahu and Siddharth Chitnis.

Barring Herwadkar, all the three players have played in IPL.

Meanwhile, all the teams have roped in former star players as mentors.

Mumbai North have former World Cup-winning player, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, as their mentor.

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman, Sameer Dighe, is the mentor of Mumbai North Central. Former India Test player, Lalchand Rajput, will don mentor’s hat for Mumbai North East.

Mumbai Central have Vinod Kambli as their mentor.

The inaugural Mumbai T20 league will be played from March 11 to 21 at the Wankhede Stadium.
