Former Indian cricketer, Sandeep Patil, has confirmed he would be coaching a team in the inaugural edition of Mumbai T20 league.

He will coach Mumbai South-Central team side in the T20 tournament, the auction of which will take place today (March 3),

“It’s not that I want to coach an international team only. I’ll be happy to coach a school team too. In this league, I’ll be coaching the Mumbai North-side. I was offered this role by PV Shetty (secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association), and I happily accepted it. Everyone who has been a part of Mumbai cricket should show involvement in this league. This is a great opportunity to showcase the talent of Mumbai’s cricketers,” he told TOI.

Patil is a former national selector who has experience of coaching as well.

He was the coach of Kenyan team that qualified for the semi-final of World Cup 2003. He had also worked with India and India A side in the past.

Interestingly, he applied for the post Head Coach of Indian cricket team in 2016 even before his contract as the national selector was to come to an end.

Later, Anil Kumble went onto win the race to become the Head Coach of Indian cricket team.

The report also confirmed that Vinod Kambli, Lalchand Rajput and Balwinder Singh Sandhu would also don the mentor’s hat.

Yesterday, it was learned that all the three former Indian players were in line to coach a team. As per the rules, a team need to have a former Test player as the mentor, the report suggests.

The T20 tournament is all set to be a star-studded affair with former stalwarts being associated with the league.

The addition of few international players will add to the star factor. The T20 league will kick off on March 11, and the final of the tournament will be played on March 21. All the matches will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Though it is yet to be confirmed, but there are chances of the matches having a live telecast as well.

The players who are eligible to play for Mumbai presently or in the coming season are only eligible to play in the league.

Wasim Jaffer and Sarfaraz Khan cannot play in the league, despite having represented Mumbai in domestic cricket. They play for Vidarbha and Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, respectively.
