Delhi captain, Rishab Pant, created history the moment he walked out for the toss before the start of the Ranji Trophy final as he became the youngest player in the history of Ranji Trophy to lead a team in the final of the tournament. Pant is the captain of Delhi Ranji Trophy team.

He broke the record of none other than Sachin Tendulkar, who held the record previously. Sachin led Mumbai in the final of Ranji Trophy 1994/95 against Punjab. He was then a regular member of the Indian team and was in the sixth year of his international cricket.

Rishab breaking this record is a big surprise because, before the start of the season, he was not even the vice-captain of the side.

The selectors decided to appoint Ishant Sharma as the captain with Milind Kumar as his deputy. However, when Delhi were without Ishant’s services, it was Rishab who was given the opportunity rather than Milind. Later, poor form with the bat saw Milind being dropped from the playing XI too.

Delhi though did not have a good start to the final as the team lost the wicket of Kunal Chandela early morning on the fourth delivery of the day. Later, Gautam Gambhir was also dismissed which left the team in all sorts of trouble. Captain, Pant himself could not do much with the bat and could just score 21. The way in which he got out raised eyebrows as he fell in the ploy of the bowlers.

He was always looking to hit the ball out of the park and missed the shots quite a few times. Bowler, Rajneesh Gurbani, bowled a delivery outside off stump which just left Rishab frozen at the crease for a while and it took off an edge off his bat which was easily caught by the wicketkeeper, Akshay Wadkar.

At stumps, Delhi were at a score of 271/6. Dhruv Shorey was the lone warrior for the team as he was batting at 123*. Himmat Singh too played an innings of 66.
