Rashid Khan On Verge Of Achieving Another Historic Feat

Rashid Khan’s unprecedented rise in international cricket is set to continue when he leads Afghanistan onto the field to face Scotland on Sunday (March 4). The spin sensation will become the youngest captain in the history of international cricket. The spinner will lead the team in the World Cup qualifier at just 19 years and 165 days old.

Rashid has been given the role as Afghanistan’s regular captain, Asghar Stanikzai will undergo surgery. Rashid’s rise in international cricket has been nothing short of phenomenal.  Last year, he along with Mohammad Nabi became the first Afghanistan players to earn IPL deals.

In the last one year or so, he has transformed himself into one of the best limited-overs spinners in the world. He is also one of the most sought-after players in T20 leagues across the globe.

Since the start of 2017, Rashid has the best economy and strike-rate of any bowler. In just 37 matches, he has already taken a staggering 86 ODI wickets and needs 14 more in as many games to become the quickest to 100 wickets.  Against West Indies in 2017, he claimed the fourth best figures of any bowler in ODI history, claiming 7/18 to help his side defend 212. He also impressed when playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

As a result of his stellar performances, he also rose to the top of the ICC ODI and T20I player rankings.  It made him the youngest male player to be ranked top in any discipline in any format.

Last year, Rashid also played in the Bangladesh Premier League, the Caribbean Premier League in addition to the IPL and BBL.He managed to make an impression in all the leagues. In the CPL, he took the league’s first-ever hat-trick for Guyana Amazon Warriors. In IPL, he finished sixth in the IPL wicket-taking charts and finished as the joint-leading wicket-taker in the BBL.
