Since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008, the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise has always boasted some of the biggest names in the international circuit. But time and again they have faltered in a crunch situation and have failed to lift the coveted title even once. This year the franchise has let go the services of flamboyant batsman Chris Gayle who had been a prominent performer for them over the years.

Speaking to Cricbuzz RCB coach Daniel Vettori said that it was a hard decision to let go Chris Gayle especially given the fact that he is one of the most destructive batsmen around. However, he added that it was done in the best interest of the team. Gayle has been associated with several T20 leagues across the globe and has been churning out runs with ease. However, it hasn’t been the case in IPL in the last year or so. The southpaw was benched for the most of the tournament last year.

“It will be sad. You look at what he has done for the franchise in the time that he has been here. We recently went through our records and he dominates all of them. He has been a fantastic player for RCB and it was tough to say goodbye. But the timing was right for us. We wish him well,” Vettori said.

Kohli didn’t have a particularly good season last year, and it reflected in the performance of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They lost 11 out of the 14 group matches. Unlike previous years they have a stronger bowling line-up in the form of Umesh Yadav, Nathan Coulter Nile, Chris Woakes, Yuzvendra Chahal, Colin de Granhomme and the new sensation Washington Sundar.

They have some serious names in the batting department too with the likes of Kohli, McCullum, Quinton de Kock, Sarfaraz Khan, Parthiv Patel, Mandeep Singh, Manan Vohra and many more.
