Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez believes the rise of India’s wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is good for the game. Meanwhile, Chahal and Kuldeep were significant contributors during India’s demolition of South Africa in the one-dayers.

The duo started against a relatably low-profile Sri Lankan team. India defeated the Islanders 5-0 in fifty-overs format. Their partnership took long strides against Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. With their splendid performance, the duo benched India’s premier spinners Ashwin and Jadeja from the white ball game.

However, speculations raised over their credibility in the overseas conditions. Kuldeep and Chahal responded brilliant bagging 33 wickets in the ODI format. The duo helped India script history as they became the first Indian team to win a series in the Rainbow Nation.

Good for the game:

Meanwhile, Hafeez feels the rise of Kuldeep and Chahal has contributed to the game. He also lauded fellow countryman and leg-spinner Shadab Khan and added that he still has a long way to go.

They (leg-spinners) are always fascinating. Starting from Abdul Qadir; he used to bowl his googlies. It was a new thing in cricket and everybody loved that,” said Hafeez. “Then it was Anil Kumble from India, Shane Warne from Australia and Mushtaq Ahmed from Pakistan performed splendidly. I think every team should have a leg-spinner because it gives you an X-Factor. Chahal, Kuldeep have done really well. Shadab Khan is fabulous but still has a lot to learn,” Hafeez added.

Pakistan in great shape:

Further, Hafeez was confident about Pakistan’s chances in the 2019 ICC World Cup. He admitted that the team has the capability to win the biggest prize in the world.

Since the Champions Trophy victory last year in England, Pakistan has witnessed a change in fortune in the Test and ODI format. While they lost 2-0 in a Test series against Sri Lanka in the UAE, the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand piled more misery on Pakistan by handing them a 5-0 loss in ODIs.

We are shaping up well. Everybody is clear of their role. Our main goal is to win outside Asia. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do that. To be honest, we miss a few bowlers who got injured. Like Usman Khan who bowled well against Sri Lanka. But still, we have done well. Mohammad Amir has been good. Hasan Ali has been great. Faheem Ashraf is learning quickly. We have that spark in the bowling. It’s all about momentum,” Hafeez mentioned.

Meanwhile, Hafeez feels Pakistan Super League has become an international brand in a very short span. Hafeez represents defending champions Peshawar Zalmi in PSL.
