Former English cricketer Rob Key believes India has set the high-standard in developing the promising youngsters. He added the Indian cricket had set an example when it comes to raising the bar of the youth cricket.

“Yes, they have a lot of people playing cricket but it is their system that enables them to develop players and make the most of that advantage,”  Key as an expert wrote for Sky.

The London-based 38-year-old right-handed batsman Key represented Kent Cricket Club (KCC).

“A lot of counties have their own identities as well. And you want someone who can push that through,” Key added.

Talking about the technical aspect, Key maintained the technical coaches must work in tandem to nurse the aspiring cricketers.

“The best technical coaches should be working at age-group cricket, in charge of the academies and they can then push their philosophy right the way throughout the system,” Key observed.

Key in his latest column for Sky Sports believes the country cricket is there to nurse the raw talent.

“Counties can do more to develop young players and India are the example to follow,” Key asserted.

Having the plenty of domestic experience on his back, Key hails the veteran batsman Rahul Dravid backed Indian youngster before sealing an emphatic title win.

While shedding light on the development, Key maintains the former top-order batsman is the role model for many in the fold.

“When it comes to youth cricket and systems, India, with Rahul Dravid, in effect, academy director, are the model to follow,” Key added.

India under Prithvi Shaw lifted the fourth overall title owing to the recently concluded Youth ODI World Cup in New Zealand against Australia Under-19.

“I think that is the model that every county should look at,” Key said.

Key cited the example of India’s young sensation Shubhman Gill, who was one of the chief architects for Indian U19.

Shubman shone at the World Cup event to finish off his U19 career at the average of over 100. Key thrust that every country can’t produce a player like Dravid, but they should rely on the experienced campaigners to help the young players.

Rob Key represented England in the national fold:

Key played 15 Tests, five One-day Internationals and a solitary Twenty20 International for England. Across formats, he scored 839 runs between 2022 and 2009.
