SA vs AUS 2018: David Warner, Quinton de Kock Fined by ICC for Breaching Code of Conduct

ICC handed Australia vice-captain David Warner and South Africa wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock fines, post their altercation at the stairway of Kingsmead’s dressing room.

The leaked CCTV footage displayed an enraged Warner giving a mouthful to De Kock en route to the dressing room during the tea interval on Day 4 of the Durban Test.

Warner has been charged with a Level 2 offence while de Kock suffers a Level 1 charge.

With this, Warner faces a possible suspension from the Port Elizabeth Test match. However, De Kock is free to play the second Test match.

The two were charged with breaching of the ICC Code of Conduct for bringing the game into disrepute.

A Level 2 breach means the player is fined 100 % of his match fees, whereas, Level 1 constitutes a fine of 50%.

David Warner, additionally, will be handed 3-4 demerit points, whereas, the Proteas has accrued 1-2 demerit point. Match referee Jeff Crowe provided time until Wednesday to respond to the charges handed out.

Except for Warner and De Kock, four other players in the ongoing series have demerit points on their records. Seamer Kagiso Rabada (5 points), offie Nathan Lyon (1 point), wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine (1 point) and Protea captain Faf du Plessis (3 points) are carrying the demerit points.

According to the law, if a player accrues four demerit points in the space of 24 four months, they are suspended for one Test match or two limited-overs internationals, whichever comes first.

We were certainly very chirpy out on the field as well. As far as I’m aware we didn’t get personal towards Quinton. But look – what he said got a little bit personal towards Davey – and as we saw it certainly provoked an emotional response,” suggested captain Steve Smith during the post-match conference.

That’s in my opinion – and what I’ve heard from the guys as well. I’m not 100 percent sure but as far as I’m aware I don’t think we got personal,” concluded Smith according to cricket.co.au.
