South Africa leveled the three-match T20I series with a stunning six-wicket over India in the second game on Wednesday (February 21).

The Proteas were staring down the barrel after India came up with another scintillating batting display. The Men in Blue rode on MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey’s unbeaten fifties to post 188 for 4 in 20 overs. Pandey scored 79 off 48 while Dhoni scored 52 off 28.

However, the hosts finally came good with the bat and reached home with over an over remaining. Heinrich Klaasen starred with the bat for the Proteas, scoring 69. The knock came off just 30 balls and was studded with three fours and seven sixes. Captain JP Duminy also scored an unbeaten fifty and took his team home by hitting two consecutive sixes in the 19th over. The thrilling game in Centurion saw many records being created.

So here is a look at some interesting numbers and statistics from the second T20I.

1. India failed to score in the first over of a T20I game for only the second time. Shikhar Dhawan played out a maiden off Chris Morris. It happened for the first time in 2016, when KL Rahul failed to score off Tendai Chatara during the tour of Zimbabwe.

2. MS Dhoni’s fifty off 27 balls is the joint-fastest by an Indian against South Africa in T20Is. Shikhar Dhawan took the same number of balls to reach his fifty in the opening game of the ongoing series.

3. With 46 sixes, MS Dhoni is now third on the list of most sixes by a wicketkeeper in T20Is. The list is led by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad who has hit 58 sixes.

4. The unbeaten 98-run stand between MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey was the fourth highest fifth-wicket partnership in T20Is.  Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq hold the record for their unbeaten 119-run stand against Australia in 2007.

5. Heinrich Klaasen scored the third fastest fifty by a South African in T20Is. Klaasen took just 22 balls to reach the milestone.  AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock scored a fifty off 21 balls against England in 2016.

6. Klaasen’s fifty is also the fastest by a South African against India in T20Is. The record was previously held by  Morne Van Wyk’ who had scored a 24-ball fifty in 2011.

7. Rohit Sharma now holds the dubious record of most ducks by a batsman for India in T20Is. Rohit was dismissed for a duck for the fourth time in his career. Ashish Nehra and Yusuf Pathan follow him.

8. Yuzvendra Chahal also made a dubious record. The leggie removed Ravindra Jadeja from the top of the list for most sixes conceded by an Indian bowler in T20Is. He was hit for seven sixes in the game. Jadeja had conceded six sixes against Australia in 2009.

9.  JP Duminy is now joint with AB de Villiers for most fifties by a South African in T20Is.  Both Duminy and de Villiers have scored 10 fifties so far.

10. JP Duminy went past AB de Villiers to become the South African with most sixes in T20Is. The southpaw has now hit 62 maximums, two more than de Villiers’ tally.

11. 64 runs conceded by Yuzvendra Chahal is the most runs by an Indian in a T20I match. The previous highest was 57, by Joginder Sharma against England at Durban in 2007.
