Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has congratulated Team India after its historic series win in South Africa on Tuesday (February 13). India thrashed South Africa by 73 runs in the fifth One-day International to go 4-1 up in the six-match series and seal the series with a game remaining.

This is India’s first-ever bilateral series win in South Africa. On the previous tours, India had lost 5-2 in 1992-93, 4-0 in 2006-07, 3-2 in 2010-11, and 2-0 in 2013-14.

However, the history and past records went for a toss as Virat Kohli’s men dismantled the Proteas to register a glory.

Sent in to bat first, India rode on Rohit Sharma’s fine century to post 274 for 7 in the allotted 50 overs. S

Left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit gave the visitors a good start by adding 48 runs. The first-wicket stand came to an end when Kagiso Rabada dismissed Dhawan for 48.

Rohit and skipper Virat Kohli then added 105 runs for the second wicket – to lay the foundation for a good total.

Moreover, two run-outs in quick succession put a brake to India’s charge. A 60-run stand between Rohit and Shreyas Iyer stopped the rot for a while.

However, Lungi Ngidi rocked India’s middle-order to put an end to the visitors’ hopes of posting a massive total. The right-arm pacer dismissed Rohit (115) and Hardik Pandya on successive deliveries to reduce India from 236 for 3 to 236 for 5.

Indian team could not recover from those early setbacks and was eventually restricted for 274 for 7.

The score turned out to be more than enough in the end as the hosts were bowled out for just 201 inside 43 overs.

Barring Hashim Amla’s 71, there were no major big contribution from any other batsmen for the hosts.

Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball by picking up 4 for 57. Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets apiece.

“Numero Uno!! A fantastic series win by #TeamIndia🇮🇳 Impressive work by both the wrist spinners, @imkuldeep18 and @yuzi_chahal and a great Knock by @ImRo45. Keep it up, boys👍” wrote Tendulkar.
