Twittersphere lashes out at South African team for their abysmal series loss to India
Updated - 17 Feb 2018, 03:49 PM
The Rainbow Nation takes a lot of pride in their sporting culture. Be it rugby, football, cricket or the Olympics. The global competition without the South African is unheard-of.
While donning gold and green, the Proteas have rightly given their countrymen moments of joy in the recent past.
Interestingly, It has been further extended to some incredible victories over the years.
Therefore, expectations are always high from when it comes to playing the game in their own den.
However, South African side almost carried an invincible record at their fortress. So much so, it is seen as a great achievement if a visiting team manages to salvage a victory.
World No. 1 ICC ODI team, India has registered a comprehensive series victory by overhauling South Africa.
Moreover, a buoyant side led by a spirited captain Virat Kohli managed to humiliate the South Africans at their own den.
India won the six-match ODI series by the 5-1 margin. The Men in Blue outplayed the hosts in all departments of the game.
However, the massive concerns popped up regarding the future of the Protean team.
In the absence of their captain Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers, Proteas batting crumbled under pressure.
Batting mainstay Hashim Amla is going through a lean patch. On the other side, the hosts spinners were ineffective. The seamers barring Rabada proved dull against Indian batters.
As a result, cricket fans from their country are enraged at this appalling performance in home conditions.
Many want things to change at the domestic level in the South African cricket, however, others demand a change in the coaching personnel.
With this series loss after 16 years at home the time has now come for introspection within the Protean camp.
With the 2019 World Cup only in a few months time, things look bleak for South African cricketers.
Well, let us look at some of the reactions regarding the South African team:

This was only the 2nd time #SouthAfrica lost 5 ODIs in a bilateral series at home!
The 1st time they lost 5-1 was back in 2002, against #Australia. #SAvIND #LivePunjabiPlayPunjabi

It's more than a series won! #SouthAfrica looked depleted and lost the nerves in game of minds. They lacked morale to fight back and surrendered!!!

If the #Proteas play this shit next week at Newlands, I'm leaving after the 1st innings. I'd rather let @TakeYourPhil @Lindyyay and @YesReallyAngel laugh my sorrows away ? I'm not falling for your sorry @SuperSportTV adverts anymore

Scary thought is that Amla was the #Proteas #ProteaFire leading run scorer in the #SAvIND #SAvsIND series with 154 runs in 6 knocks. Faf scored 120 in one knock… #Cricket

I'm sure that Alister Coetzee secretly coached this #Proteas side for this ODI series. How else do you explain those results? #ProteaFire #SSCricket #SAvIND

I mean, the #Proteas have so many opportunities in training, Facilities, sponsorships etc, but they make as if they've never seen a bat and ball before.

#Proteas How utterly disgusting Protea's performance against India on our own grounds. CSA needs restructuring desperately. Bring back Logart and Kirsten or Domingo and send this WINDI back home!
