South African great, Jacques Kallis, asserts that due to the absence of quality wrist spinners in the domestic circuit, the batsmen have struggled in the series. Kallis claims this as the primary reason for the host’s downfall in the series.

Out of the 43 wickets taken by India, 30 wickets have been shared by the wrist-spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Kuldeep. Only the likes of Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamzi in the South African cricket circuit can come close to the Indian spinners. The two failed to create an impact in the games so far.

It takes time to read good leg-break bowlers. We have to accept we don’t have enough world class leg-spinners in our country. So, this is a learning curve for the youngsters in our team,” quoted Jacques Kallis according to PTI.

India clinched their first bilateral series on South African soil by clinching the 6-match ODI series by 4-1. The last ODI will be played at Centurion on February 16.

Experience is the key. There are basically two ways to read leg-break bowling. Either you pick it up from the wrists or wait for the ball to pitch. No two batsmen would employ the same technique. As one plays more international cricket, he would know what works best for him. Everyone devises their own mechanism to get out of trouble,” further explained Kallis, dispensing the tricks of the

Kallis also focussed on the point mentioned by Kepler Wessels earlier regarding the lack of depth in their batting. The management has their task cut out once their stalwarts- Amla, De Villiers, and Du Plessis, call it quits from cricket.

Probably, South Africa must have realised by now that they don’t have much depth when senior cricketers [AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis] get injured. They [CSA] need to look carefully about how they will expose youngsters to international cricket,” lamented the greatest all-rounder ever produced.

When asked about the lack of quality allrounders prevalent in world cricket presently, Kallis cited out the volume of cricket played by modern cricketer as the reason for the same. Kallis termed Pandya as a good prospect for the future.

The history of the game will tell you that there weren’t many all-rounders in the game ever. More so now, because of the amount of cricket that is being played. He [Hardik] is still young and has got a lot to learn along the way. But yeah, he looks a good prospect,” concluded Jacques Kallis.
