Navdeep Saini was one of the four net bowlers who were to travel to South Africa with the India Test team before the start of the tour but he missed the bus.

Delhi had qualified for the final of Ranji Trophy, which meant that his state needed his services.

He did well in the final and scalped a fifer in the second innings of the game.

His performance was enough for the Indian team to take note of him and he was called to South Africa to bowl in nets before the third Test.

Navdeep had a brief stint of nine days in team’s nets, which was morale boosting for the pacer,

“I was in Johannesburg for nine days. Bowling in front of a coach like Ravi Shastri and cricketer like Virat was in itself morale boosting. I picked up things from senior members of the team too while bowling in the nets. I hope to do well this season and leave an impression and soon get into the Indian team. I will have to keep delivering the goods for Delhi, RCB, India A and North Zone and raise the standard of my game,” he told The Hindustan Times.

From past couple of seasons, he has done well and national selectors have also taken note of him.

He has played for India A in past year and is now pretty close to national selection.

His consistent pace has impressed selectors and he will be the one to watch out when selectors announce the squad for England Test series.

Before the tour, he has few more opportunities to push for his selection.

The Delhi pacer is a part of India B in the Deodhar Trophy to be played between Karnataka, India A and India B in Dharamsala.

Post that, he will join Rest of India squad for Irani Cup where he will have an opportunity to impress selectors again.

His performance in IPL will be something which would really have its impact on his chances.

Saini was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for an amount of Rs 3 Crore.

The pacer is expected to play the major part of the league under captain Virat Kohli.
