Team India middle-order batsman Suresh Raina has congratulated the explosive opener, Shikhar Dhawan, after the prominent batter slammed a magnificent ton in the fourth ODI against South Africa on Saturday in Johannesburg.

First India to score ton in 100th ODI:

Dhawan was playing his 100th ODI and went on to register his name in the record books. The southpaw created history by becoming the first Indian player to score a hundred in his 100th ODI.

The 32-year-old batsman reached his 13th  century off 99 balls – to make the milestone game a memorable one. He was eventually dismissed by Morne Morkel on 109. The knock came off 105 balls and was studded with 11 fours and two sixes.

The left-handed batsman Dhawan shared a second wicket partnership of 158 with captain Virat Kohli.

Chris Morris ended the stand by dismissing Kohli for 75. Dhawan also surpassed former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who made 97 against the same opponents in his 100th ODI in the 1999 World Cup, to get to the milestone.

Overall, Dhawan eventually became just the ninth player to score century in the 100th ODI.

Dhawan is receiving congratulatory messages from all around and Raina also joined the bandwagon.  Raina took to Twitter to congratulate his India teammate, writing: “Gao waalon give it up for Gabbar ??? Congratulations on a superb hundred, @Sdhawan25. #PinkODI #SAvIND.”

Resurgence in ODIs:

After failing in the Test series, Dhawan has found his mojo back in the coloured jersey. He opened the series with a 35-run knock before slamming 51 not out and 76 in the following two games. He then went on to covert another start into a fine century.
