The No 1 side in the world, Team India made a dramatic comeback in the 3rd and the final test against the Proteas at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg to finish the three-match series on a winning note. It was a sensational piece of fast bowling by the Indian pace brigade as they ran through the South African batting line-up in the last couple of sessions which saw them lose their last nine wickets for just 53 runs.

The target of 241 was a pretty difficult one but the way Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla applied themselves in the opening session it looked that the hosts would coast to a 3-0 series victory. However, the main drama was yet to unfold. It was Ishant Sharma who opened the floodgates with the wicket of Hashim Amla and from there on it was a rather embarrassing slide for the Proteas.

Mohammed Shami who was underbowled all through the match finally made his presence felt with a brilliant spell of fast bowling towards the fag end of the match. He castled Vernon Philander and Andile Phwelukwayo in the same over and then came back strongly to York out Morne Morkel. He bagged a five-wicket haul just like the way Bumrah did in the 1st innings.

This victory will stand as one of the most decorated wins by an Indian team in foreign conditions, and the most pleasing fact was that the Indian bowlers managed to pick up 60 wickets in the series. Despite losing the series, India has several positives to take from the series. The series could well have gone either way and kudos to the team for playing out of their skin and making a sensational comeback.

It was definitely a learning curve for the visitors and the same opinion was voiced by opener Shikhar Dhawan. Taking to his twitter handle, he shared a picture of the team in the dressing room where they are seen celebrating their victory with a caption:

“A good win by the team in the 3rd test! This test series was a great learning experience and we can take a lot of positives out of it and work on them in the future!”
