The decision of BCCI to prepone the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 has come down on Irani Cup and Deodhar Trophy. As per the website of BCCI, both the tournaments will start on March 14 which means that many of the key players would only play only one-off the tournament.

Both the tournaments are premier tournaments in Indian domestic cricket, and surely, BCCI will have to change the staging of tournaments to avoid the clash of the two series.

The Irani Cup is played between the winners of Ranji Trophy and a Rest of India team while the Deodhar Trophy is played between winners of Vijay Hazare Trophy, India A, and an India B team.

Vidarbha will be playing the Irani Cup and if they win Vijay Hazare Trophy too, then how would they field two teams?

Surely, the board will look into it and will tweak the fixtures.

Players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and few others are expected to play in the Irani Cup as Indian team will not be playing any Test match that time. In Deodhar Trophy as well (after BCCI changes fixtures) many international stars are expected to make an appearance.

The fixtures of post-Ranji Trophy tournaments had to be tweaked earlier to prepone Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The T20 league was brought ahead of IPL auctions so as to allow players present a case in front of IPL franchises.

The league stage of the T20 tournament ended yesterday (January 16) and the Super League will start on January 21 in Calcutta. Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Baroda, and Mumbai are the ten teams to qualify for the Super League.

The final of the league will be played on January 27, the first day of IPL auction.
