Twitter Reacts As IPL Governing Body Allows Teams to Retain Five Players
Updated - 06 Dec 2017, 06:51 PM
Twitter reacts as the IPL Governing Council met the Committee of Administrators on Wednesday in New Delhi and took a decision on the IPL retention policy, salary cap, player regulation and other related issues. The Governing council cleared the much-hyped topic of player retention and informed that an IPL franchise could retain up to five players by a combination of player retention and Right to match during the auction.
An IPL franchisee can retain maximum three capped Indian players, two foreign capped players and two uncapped Indian players. Franchisee’s which do not retain any player from their squad get three options of right to match. The Governing Council has also set the salary for every franchise for the next three seasons. Franchisees will have a cap of 80 crores in 2018, 82 crores in 2019 and 85 crores in 2020.
This year will also see the return of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to the flamboyant Indian Premier League. The two teams can retain players who were in their squad in the 2015 season and part of the Gujarat Lions squad or Rising Pune SuperGiants squad.
Let’s have a look at how Twitter reacted to the decision made by Governing Council.
The best thing about #IPL2018 is we don't have to see MSD play under that Brainfade Captain and the Brainless Owner. ??#IPL2018

Retaining 3 Players doesn't come easy. Costs #IPL2018 Teams Big. If a team chooses to retain three players, a cumulative of INR 33 crores will be deducted from the base auction purse (15, 11, 7 for the three players respectively) #IPL

Would have loved to see a complete reshuffle of the teams for the #IPL2018. Retaining upto 5 players give the teams an option to play with the same core team. @IPL #ipl
