The crest and troughs of the ongoing Trans-Tasman Tri Series continued at Seddon Park, Hamilton, as England and New Zealand clashed in a virtual semi-finals fixture.

Australian already cemented their place in the finals by winning all four matches they played in the tournament.

All eyes were on the penultimate fixture of the Triangular series which would determine the other finalist. The crowd at Seddon Park were treated with a nail-biting thriller in the end, as England won the match by just a couple of runs.

After winning the toss, Kane Williamson decided to take the field first. The onus was on the English batsmen to post a monumental total which would ensure them to progress to the finals due to superior run rate.

England received a major blow up front with quick dismissals of their openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales. Yet again, it was Dawid Malan for the English team who came to rescue with another half-century to his name.

Malan also created the record of scoring four half-centuries within first five games of his T20I career. The southpaw stitched a priceless partnership of 93 runs with captain Morgan at the other end.

Morgan also clinched the man of the match award for his unbeaten knock of 80 which enabled his team to post a par score of 194.

The magic number for England while taking the field was 174. New Zealand needed to be restricted at 174 by England to progress into the finals of Trans-Tasman Tri Series.

They faced a destructive Colin Munro up-front who smashed a half-century in 18 balls. Although the Three Lions were able to pull it back for themselves with the introduction of spin, Morgan’s side had no answer to the onslaught from Guptill.

In the end, it was some spirited death bowling from Jordan and Curran which helped England bag a consolation victory, failing to limit the Kiwis to 174.
