After a Twittter Banter, Ravi Ashwin Wishes Herschelle Gibbs on His Birthday

Team Indian spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin who was recently involved in a Twitter banter with Herschelle Gibbs wished the former South African opener on his birthday. Taking to his twitter handle Ash wrote:

“Many more happy returns of the day to @hershybru , have a good one.”

Gibbs was quick to thank him for the gesture.

“Thanks, bud have a good day.”

A few days earlier Ashwin had posted a picture of his brand new Nike shoes. Sharing the picture he wrote:

“Hey Guys! Just got my hands on the new NIKE React. It’s got a stunning design and the foam technology used makes it light and comfortable to use. Undoubtedly, the best running shoes I’ve stepped into, can’t wait to flaunt them.”

It was Gibbs who took a dig at Ashwin following this tweet. He wrote that he hopes that the news also makes Ashwin a faster individual.

“Hopefully you will be able to run a bit faster now Ashwin,” wrote Gibbs.

This didn’t go down well with Ashwin. He stated that although he cannot be a fielder like Gibbs in his lifetime but he will never do anything corrupt which will hamper the reputation of himself and his nation. It was in relation to the match-fixing scandal which Gibbs was involved in way back in 2000. The then South African skipper Hansie Cronje had revealed the names of three other players who played a part in fixing matches. He later deleted the tweet.

The opener was suspended for six months but returned to international cricket with a bang. Gibbs in reply said that his reply was obviously a joke. However, everyone felt that Ashwin was not particularly happy with the situation and hence he gave that reply.

“Can’t take a joke I see anyway moving swiftly on,” said Gibbs.

In reply, Ashwin wrote that his reply was also a joke.

“I totally believed my reply was a joke too, but look how people and yourself perceived it. I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime,” he wrote.

He further added:

“What’s sensitive to me isn’t to someone else, and what’s sensitive to you isn’t to me. I want to respect my family of fans and hence pulled the tweet down, and now entertainment over for all my haters. See you later.”
