U19 World Cup: Ishan Porel Declared Fit To Participate In Remainder Of Tournament

India U19 pacer, Ishan Porel, has been declared fit for the remaining games in the junior World Cup. The news was made public by skipper Prithvi Shaw himself on social media platform –

Ishan Porel suffered a soft tissue injury during team India’s opening encounter against Australia when he landed awkwardly while bowling his fifth over. He just bowled one ball of his fifth over and walked out after he found it difficult to continue.

BCCI had already decided to send in Aditya Thakare as a cover for Porel. Thakare was on the standby list for the World Cup and went on to make his Ranji Trophy debut after he missed out on selection. In the final, he impressed with his swing with the new ball and as per the reports, had also been called for IPL trials.

With Porel declared fit now, there are unlikely chances that Thakare would feature in the playing XI now.

Team India had an opportunity to play Porel today in the contest against Zimbabwe, but Prithvi Shaw decided to give chances to other players. Arshdeep Singh retained his place while Harvik Desai and Riyan Parag were also included in the playing XI. Desai opened the innings with Shubhman Gill (90*) and played an innings of 56*. Both the openers shared match winning first wicket partnership of 155 to help India win all the three games in group stage.

Parag, on the other hand, bowled a clean spell of 5-0-17-1. Both the players though might have to way for regulars in the quarterfinal contest.

India U19 will now face Bangladesh U19 in the quarterfinal of the junior World Cup on January 26 in Queenstown. Ishan Porel is expected to make his way back in the playing XI as he is one of the experienced pacers in the side who has also played first-class cricket.

In the ongoing World Cup, Anukul Roy is the highest wicket-taker till now with 10 wickets to his name. He is not one of the seven players who have signed up for IPL auction 2018. The seven players in the IPL auction list are  Prithvi Shaw, Shubhman Gill, Himanshu Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Porel, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. His name can be added to the list later.
