Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18: Railways, Assam & Rajasthan Name their Squad for List A Tournament

Railways pacer, Karan Thakur, has been named in the squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18. Karan drew limelight way back in 2013 when he became the first bowler in the history to scalp all ten wickets in an innings in CK Nayudu Trophy.

However, his first-class debut came three years later in 2016/17 season, and his T20 debut came recently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has played six first-class and three T20s and looks all set to make his list A debut as well.

Mahesh Rawat, the veteran player, has been appointed, as the captain. Anureet Singh continues to be part of the team. Apart from them, the side includes likes of Mrunal Devdhar – the former Baroda player, Arindam Ghosh – former Bengal player – and Ankit Yadav.

Ankit last played a competitive game in 2015 for Odisha and had been included in the team after shifting his base to Railways.

Railways will face Odisha, Assam, Haryana, Baroda, Punjab and Karnataka in their league stage contests to be played in Bengaluru.

Assam includes U19 player, Riyan Parag –

Riyan Parag, the first player of the 21st century to make the first-class debut, has been included in the Assam’s team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Riyan is currently part of the U19 World Cupp team which is held in New Zealand and will join his state team after a couple of matches

The 16-year-old player has played three games in the tournament where he has taken three wickets. Riyan missed a couple of early games due to injury. In the semi-final against Pakistan, he scalped two wickets for just six runs.

Riyan had played one first-class, two List A and three T20 games till now.

Experience Gokul Sharma will lead Assam team. Pacer Abu Nechim is also part of the side.

Aniket Choudhary to lead Rajasthan –

Aniket Choudhary will continue to lead Rajasthan in the domestic season, as the left-arm pacer has been appointed, as the captain for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18. He recently led the team in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well.

Mahipal Lomror, who stood for him in one T20 contest to become the youngest T20 captain in India, has been appointed as deputy to him.

The squad includes Rahul Chahar, who was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.90 Crore on the auction day. Tajinder Singh, who was also bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 55 Lakh has also been named.

Deepak Chahar has not been included in the team. He suffered an injury during the semi-final of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Punjab, which is understood to be the reason behind him not getting selected for the tournament.

Young pacer Khaleel Ahmed will continue to be part of the pace attack with Aniket. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a huge amount of Rs 3 Crore in the IPL auction.
