Waqar Younis, the former Pakistan captain, has backed Indian skipper Virat Kohli to break all the batting records in the years to come,

“The way he is maintaining his fitness and the way he enjoys his game and focusses on his skill level, I think he is destined to break all batting records in the years to come,” he told PTI during an interaction.

Kohli, who is one of the batsmen in all the formats at present, already holds many records. Recently, he scored three back to back centuries against Sri Lanka in the home Test series which included two double centuries too.

With those double centuries, he broke the record of Brian Lara for most double centuries in Test cricket. Previously, the former Windies captain held the record five double tons as captain. Also, Kohli reached 5000 runs mark and became the 11th Indian batsmen to do so.

Talking of his ODI records, Kohli recently overtook Ricky Ponting in terms of the centuries in this format of the game. Ponting has a total of 30 ODI centuries while Kohli has 32. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with a total of 49 ODI centuries to his name.

In the current year, Kohli tops the list of most ODI runs as he scored 1460 runs in 26 matches at an average of 76.84. It is to be noted that he missed three ODIs at the end of the year which came against Sri Lanka. It was after one and a half year when Kohli had asked for rest.

The way Kohli is batting at the moment, he will sooner or later overtake Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries and would look forward to breaking Tendulkar’s record of most runs in ODI format, the chances of which are quite likely.
