The Delhi star is now in line to surpass the legendary Sir Don Bradman. The right-handed batsman has so far scored a stunning 870 runs on the ongoing tour of South Africa. If he manages another 104 in the remaining two T20Is to be played on February 21 and 24, he will move past Bradman’s mark. The former Australia batsman had scored 974 runs in five Tests against England in 1930.

Number one position:

Kohli retained his top spot in ODI rankings, the ICC announced on Tuesday.  Kohli, who was at the top of the rankings, received the highest ODI batting rating in 27 years. Furthermore, he also became the first Indian to move above 900 points under the ICC’s historical system of rating players.

The right-handed batsman picked up 33 rating points to extend his lead at the top of the rankings. He now leads AB de Villiers by 65 points. His rating of 909 is the highest of any player since Australia’s Dean Jones in 1991 and the seventh-highest in ODI history.

The players who had a better ranking than Kohli are – Sir Viv Richards (935 in 1985), Zaheer Abbas (931 in 1983), Greg Chappell (921 in 1981), David Gower (919 in 1983), Jones (918 in 1991) and Javed Miandad (910 in 1987). Kohli had started the series on 876 points,  the 18th highest of all time.

Meanwhile, India are leading the T20I series after winning the first game in Johannesburg. Hence, the Men in Blue will have a chance to wrap up the three-match series in the second game.
